The price for magnesium anodes just went up almost 140 percent. I’ve read that China has shut down magnesium producers because of a shortage of coal. Right now, Rheem and Bradford White use magnesium anodes, while A.O. Smith mostly uses aluminum. Due to their price sensitivites, this could force the whole industry to abandon magnesium.
